Northern Arizona Roads Reopen After Whiteout Storm as Next System Approaches

Forecasters warn of late-Thursday snow and strong winds that could again make travel hazardous above 6,500 feet.

Overview

  • ADOT reopened southbound I-17 near Munds Park after a roughly one-hour closure that began around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.
  • Westbound I-40 east of Williams reopened late Wednesday morning after multiple crashes and disabled vehicles shut it near milepost 170.
  • Arizona Snowbowl closed for the day Wednesday due to high winds, with lift ticket, rental, and lesson purchases to be credited.
  • Grand Canyon National Park closed Desert View Drive and Hermit Road on Wednesday because of winter weather conditions.
  • Another storm late Thursday into Friday is forecast to drop several more inches of snow at higher elevations with gusty winds, and travel could again be difficult along I-40 and other high-country routes.
