Northeast Task Force Moves to Finalize Connectivity Roadmap, Puts Kaladan Project at the Forefront

A near-final report will set phased steps to connect the Northeast to Southeast Asian markets under the Act East policy.

Overview

The High-Level Task Force met virtually on December 22 for its third review to evaluate ongoing works and accelerate inter-state connectivity across all eight Northeastern states.
DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma participated along with senior officials.
Saha presented an integrated strategy to develop logistics hubs, expand freight rail and upgrade energy and digital networks to position the region as a gateway to the Bay of Bengal and ASEAN.
Lalduhoma called for early completion of the Kaladan link, a National Highway up to Zorinpui, stronger connectivity via Zokhawthar and a rail extension beyond Sairang in Mizoram.
Officials said the Task Force is close to finalising a report detailing short-, medium- and long-term actions for the North East Economic Corridor.
