Northbound 19th Avenue Lanes Closed 70 Hours for Caltrans Repaving

The agency is compressing the job into three weekends to cut a roughly 40-day schedule to about 10 days.

Overview

  • Caltrans closed two of three northbound lanes between Sloat Boulevard and Lincoln Way on Friday at 7 a.m., with work scheduled through Monday at 5 a.m.
  • One lane remains for Muni buses, emergency crews, and local access, with parking banned in work zones and signed detours guiding drivers to Sunset Boulevard and routes via Junipero Serra Boulevard or Brotherhood Way.
  • Two more closures are set for May 8–11 for southbound lanes and May 22–25 for both directions, which SFMTA says trims about 40 workdays down to roughly 10.
  • Crews are resurfacing about 18.8 lane miles to remove potholes, fix failing pavement, and upgrade traffic detection and ADA features to improve ride quality and safety.
  • Neighbors and small shops expect tougher access and noise, though Caltrans says loud work will stop by 10 p.m. the first two weekends and a June 5–7 rain date is on hold.
