North Macedonia Seizes Over 40 Tons of Cannabis in Raids on Licensed Producers

Investigators are assessing possible diversion to illegal markets, including potential links to a recent Serbian seizure.

Overview

  • Police said the haul exceeds 40 tons and includes more than 1,300 bottles of cannabis oil.
  • About nine tons and the oil were seized at a company in Skopje, with roughly 31 tons taken from several sites in eastern North Macedonia.
  • Authorities reported serious regulatory violations by firms authorized to produce medical cannabis, which has been legal in the country since 2016.
  • Probes are examining whether the material was intended for illicit consumption or smuggling, as well as connections to Serbia’s late-January five-ton marijuana bust.
  • One of those arrested in Serbia is reported to be a co-owner of the Skopje firm, while North Macedonian officials have not disclosed arrests or a street value for the seizure.
