North Fair Oaks Man Arrested After Firing Shots and Barricading in Home

Crisis negotiators using less-lethal tactics ended the standoff without injuries.

Overview

  • Reports of gunfire outside a Warrington Avenue home late Saturday led deputies to a barricade situation in North Fair Oaks.
  • Deputies identified the suspect as 34-year-old Jose Gaytan, who lives in the home with family members including an infant and a 92-year-old grandmother.
  • Neighbors were evacuated as SWAT, crisis negotiators, and drones responded, and deputies heard additional shots from inside the house.
  • After hours of talks, deputies used chemical agents and Gaytan exited around 6:20 a.m. Sunday, when he was arrested without further incident; a firearm was recovered and no injuries were reported.
  • Gaytan was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, child endangerment, and violating a protective order, and the sheriff praised a professional response that protected residents.
