Noida Enforces Assembly Ban Through May 8 as Labour Day Stays Calm After Factory Unrest

Police say Labour Day stayed calm under a no-assembly order running through May 8.

Overview

  • Labour unions’ events, which took place Friday under police restrictions, remained peaceful and the police chief said industrial work continued without disruption.
  • Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, a preventive public-order law, is in force district-wide from April 30 to May 8 and bars gatherings of five or more without permission.
  • The commissionerate mapped 11 zones and 49 sectors for patrols and put more than 1,600–1,700 personnel on duty with drones over 50 sites, round-the-clock CCTV, and a one-kilometre drone no-fly ring near government offices.
  • Police said they arrested more than 350 people after the mid-April unrest and filed cases against some who allegedly used social media and new WhatsApp bots to spread false rumours.
  • A state panel approved an interim minimum wage rise of about 21% effective April 1, and the district ran free health camps at 201 sites on Labour Day as workers watch upcoming pay slips to confirm the higher rates.
