Noah Wyle to Lead Writers Guild Foundation Live Reading of Star Trek Pilot

The staged reading will use a script from the WGF archive to raise money for the foundation’s programs in honor of both organizations’ 60th anniversaries.

Overview

  • The Writers Guild Foundation will present a RetroReads live reading of the original Star Trek episode “The Man Trap” at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles on August 30, with in-person tickets priced at $81 and a $20 livestream/on-demand option available through thirdbest.tv.
  • Noah Wyle is confirmed to play Captain James T. Kirk and will be joined by Katherine LaNasa, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Shabana Azeez and Ayesha Harris from HBO Max’s The Pitt.
  • A WGF poster and reporting link some specific role pairings — including Taylor Dearden as Spock and Katherine LaNasa as Dr. McCoy and a possible listing of Ayesha Harris as Uhura — but not all casting details have been formally confirmed by organizers.
  • Production credits reported include Ben Blacker and Heath Corson as producers, live scoring by Philip Krohnengold, and a professional livestream produced by DSPStudioLA with distribution by Third Best Comedy.
  • Proceeds will support the WGF’s library and public programs such as Writers Access and the Veterans Writing Project, and the event highlights the WGF’s Shavelson-Webb Library, which holds tens of thousands of scripts available to the public.
