Nitish Kumar Moves Bihar’s SEZ Push Forward With Nawanagar Site Inspection

The visit signals a push for local hiring alongside infrastructure fixes to convert approvals into operating hubs.

Overview

  • During a review of factories in Buxar’s Nawanagar industrial area, the chief minister said the planned SEZ will drive industrial growth and employment.
  • The state outlined road, power and drainage upgrades and presented data showing 439.68 acres in the area, with 337.07 acres allotted and 126.51 acres set aside for the SEZ.
  • Company executives, including from PepsiCo-linked bottling and ethanol units, were urged to maximize recruitment of local workers.
  • An ethanol producer told the chief minister that central procurement occurs only six months a year, disrupting operations, and he said he would raise the issue with the Centre.
  • He also conducted an aerial review of the new Ganga bridge at Buxar, which the CMO said will strengthen links to Uttar Pradesh and support trade, as Bihar advances two Centre-approved SEZs expected to generate about 10,000 jobs.
