Nissan’s China-Built NX8 SUV and N7 Sedan Get First Drives as Australia Weighs Their Arrival

New test drives show how Nissan could use these models to help meet Australia’s tougher efficiency rules.

Overview

  • GoAuto’s review details the NX8 as a large five-seat SUV with a 773L boot and a 95L front trunk, rear-wheel drive, and an 81kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery rated at 630km on China’s CLTC cycle.
  • Nissan claims the NX8 can peak-charge at up to 463kW and go from 10 to 80 percent in about 12 minutes, and the cabin adds twin 15.6-inch screens plus a head-up display that projects a blind-spot camera feed onto the windscreen.
  • CarExpert’s quick drive of the N7 describes a big, sleek sedan with a drag coefficient of 0.208, a 73kWh Sunwoda battery, front-wheel drive with 200kW and 305Nm, and a claimed 625km CLTC range.
  • Nissan says the N7 can fast-charge from 30 to 80 percent in around 14 minutes, and early impressions from both outlets note measured acceleration with the N7 feeling livelier and the NX8 tuned for comfort and space.
  • Nissan executives say both models are under consideration for Australia, which would require right-hand-drive engineering and certification under the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard, and real-world range would be measured under local WLTP or ADR tests rather than CLTC.
