Nissan Sells Rosslyn Plant to Chery, Ending Local Production in South Africa

The agreement preserves most Rosslyn jobs through offers from Chery on substantially similar terms.

Overview

  • Chery SA will acquire Nissan’s Rosslyn land, buildings and associated assets, including a nearby stamping plant, with completion targeted for mid-2026 subject to regulatory approvals.
  • Production of the Navara, the site’s only model, is planned to cease in May if the transaction proceeds as expected.
  • Nissan will remain in the market as an importer, continuing sales and aftersales operations and planning launches in fiscal 2026 such as the Tekton and Patrol.
  • Nissan executives said the sale provides a practical solution to prolonged underutilisation at Rosslyn while helping sustain work for suppliers.
  • The deal would make Chery the third Chinese automaker with a manufacturing foothold in South Africa, joining BAIC and FAW.
