Nissan Launches Tekton SUV From India to Drive Exports and Volume Recovery

The midsize Tekton is being built in Chennai for sale and export as Nissan leans on India and its Renault alliance to rebuild global volumes.

Overview

  • Nissan unveiled the Tekton at a global premiere in Mumbai and opened bookings after announcing prices from ₹10.49 lakh to ₹18.59 lakh, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin on July 20.
  • Production will take place at Renault’s Chennai plant under the Renault-Nissan Alliance, and Nissan plans to export the model to about 50 markets, including countries in Africa, the Middle East and the GCC.
  • The Tekton rides on the CMF-B architecture shared with the Renault Duster and launches with two turbo‑petrol engines (1.0L 100 hp and 1.3L 163 hp), six-speed manual or seven‑speed DCT options, Google-built connectivity and Level‑2 ADAS on higher trims; Nissan has not added a hybrid for this model.
  • Nissan Motor India has set ambitious targets tied to the Tekton, aiming for 100,000 domestic sales and 100,000 exports annually by FY2027-28 and expanding its dealer network rapidly to support volume growth.
  • The company activated a high-profile marketing push, naming Hrithik Roshan as brand ambassador and offering introductory finance and exchange incentives, a move that could pressure rivals and boost Nissan’s retail footprint while the firm delays any India EV decision until around 2028.
