Overview
- Nintendo confirmed on Wednesday that online service for Mario Kart Tour will end on September 29, 2026 at 11:00 p.m. Pacific Time and the game will become unplayable once servers are turned off.
- The company halted ruby sales and cancelled Gold Pass auto-renewals during maintenance on July 7, 2026 and will make most Gold Pass benefits free to all players from August 4 until shutdown.
- Nintendo’s FAQ states an offline version is not scheduled for release, which means players will lose access to drivers, karts, gliders and other items they unlocked or bought when service ends.
- Active development on the mobile title stopped in 2023 and Nintendo has migrated some Tour tracks into console releases such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart World, but those ports do not preserve player-owned items.
- The shutdown sharpens debate over digital ownership and preservation, could heighten calls for industry or legal safeguards for live-service purchases, and leaves players with months to use remaining in-game currency and enjoy final events.
