Nintendo Lawsuit Narrowed to Older Palworld Builds, 1.0 Unlikely to Be Affected

The amendment sharply reduces Nintendo’s leverage by confining claims to a past sales window with recoverable damages capped under Japanese law.

Overview

  • Court records show Nintendo and The Pokémon Company amended their suit in November 2025 to target only older Palworld builds that existed before Pocketpair patched mechanics tied to the asserted patents.
  • Pocketpair removed or changed features such as throwable Pal Spheres and direct creature gliding and has said at least some of those edits were made because of the litigation.
  • Legal analysts report Nintendo now has virtually no path to stop current or very recent Palworld versions and that the maximum damages tied to the narrowed claim window are about ¥5 million (roughly $30,000).
  • Palworld’s full 1.0 release is scheduled for July 10, 2026 and that launch is not covered by the narrowed claims, though developers say the suit previously affected morale and forced design tradeoffs.
  • The case continues with a technical evidence presentation on October 1, 2026 and a court opinion expected November 9, 2026, and any ruling under these claims would apply only to acts in Japan, limiting commercial impact globally.
