Nintendo Dominates Famitsu’s May 18–24 Physical Charts

The surge signals stronger-than-usual demand for Switch 2 ahead of a regional price rise.

Overview

  • Famitsu’s boxed-physical estimates for the week of May 18–24, 2026 show Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream sold 64,899 retail copies and remained the week’s top-selling title.
  • Yoshi and the Mysterious Book debuted as the highest-selling new release with 39,661 retail copies, placing it second on the weekly software chart.
  • Switch 2 hardware moved 247,880 units during the week, lifting its tracked lifetime to about 5.83 million units while the combined PlayStation 5 models sold 8,673 units and the Switch family sold 9,539 units.
  • The figures cover only boxed physical sales in Japan and exclude digital downloads and overseas sales, and Famitsu will publish positions 11–30 for the same week on May 29.
  • The strong week likely reflects a short-term boost in console purchases before Japan’s recent regional price increase and could accelerate near-term hardware adoption even though total player counts require digital and international data to be fully assessed.
