Overview
- The crash happened early Saturday around 5:30–5:40 a.m. near Janga Wala Mor when an overcrowded pickup carrying roughly 25–32 family members struck a heavy truck head-on, leaving nine dead and many injured.
- Rescue teams and locals pulled trapped occupants from the mangled pickup and took the injured to Civil Hospital, Ferozepur, with several critically wounded patients referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot.
- Ferozepur police have registered a criminal case and are investigating the cause while officers search for the truck driver, whom eyewitnesses said lost control and dragged the pickup several metres.
- The victims were relatives from Jalalabad travelling to immerse a deceased relative’s ashes at Beas; those killed and injured include women and children and survivors reported the group had started the journey before dawn.
- District officials and relief agencies are arranging aid and compensation for victims’ families, and local leaders are renewing calls to widen and improve the Ferozepur–Fazilka road to prevent further accidents.
