Nine-Day Piccadilly Closure Cuts Manchester Airport Trains Over Half Term

Expecting close to one million travelers, the airport has issued guidance on terminals, security, and alternative transport.

Overview

  • Network Rail will close most of Manchester Piccadilly from 14–22 February, with no direct train services between the station and Manchester Airport during this period.
  • A limited rail service from Crewe will call at the airport, while replacement buses will run between Piccadilly and the airport, including routes via Gatley, Burnage and East Didsbury; Piccadilly’s concourse remains open with a reduced westbound service from platforms 13 and 14.
  • Manchester Airport says nearly one million passengers are expected over half term, including more than 50,000 on Friday 13 February, and advises arriving two hours before short-haul and three hours before long-haul flights.
  • Most airlines now operate from Terminal 2, Ryanair departs from Terminal 3 with access routed via Terminal 1, and passengers are urged to check their terminal before setting off.
  • All security lanes use new scanners so liquids and electronics can stay in bags, though the 100ml liquid limit still applies; travellers are advised to pre-book parking, note forecourt charges (£5 for five minutes or £6.40 for 10 minutes, payable by midnight next day), or use the free drop-off at JetParks 1 with shuttle buses.
