Overview
- A joint Kotwali Nagar–SOG operation arrested nine people and rescued a nine-month-old infant on Wednesday, May 20, after tracing the child’s movements through surveillance and field intelligence.
- Police say the case began when a woman travelling by train from Delhi reported that an unidentified pair befriended her on May 13 and took her nine-month-old on the pretext of feeding and care before disappearing at Rae Bareli station.
- Authorities identified the arrested as residents of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, including Ramkumar Das and his wife Reshma from Araria, and said four of the nine accused are women.
- Investigators used CCTV footage, technical tracking, station movement analysis and human intelligence to locate the suspects, recover the child and seize a Hyundai Venue believed to have been used in the operation.
- An FIR was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions covering kidnapping and organised activity, police have added trafficking-related sections, and officials say further arrests and interstate links are likely as interrogations continue.
