Nike Names David Denton Chief Financial Officer

The company says Denton’s public-company finance and board experience will sharpen capital allocation to support its Sport Offense turnaround.

Overview

  • Nike announced that David M. Denton will join as executive vice president and chief financial officer effective August 17, with incumbent Matthew Friend staying through September 4 to ensure an orderly handover.
  • Denton joins from Pfizer, where he has been CFO since 2022, and brings more than 30 years of finance experience including prior CFO roles at Lowe’s and CVS plus service on several public boards.
  • CEO Elliott Hill described the move as a timed leadership change to shift Nike from foundational work to sustained growth under the Sport Offense operating model.
  • Nike said its upcoming fourth-quarter results will include a one-time tariff-refund benefit that was not in prior guidance and that underlying results excluding this item are expected to be generally in line with earlier guidance.
  • The hire adds financial and governance depth as Nike continues a multi-quarter turnaround after weaker fiscal 2026 results, and the transition is meant to preserve continuity during planning for the next fiscal year.
