Nijmegen, Tilburg and Schiedam Publish 4–5 May Commemoration Programs

Overview

• The three municipalities, which published detailed schedules Friday, set confirmed plans for 4 May remembrance and 5 May liberation events with times, routes and venues.
• Nijmegen’s 4 May program begins 18:00 at Kitty de Wijzeplaats, features a 19:00 address by historian Maria Grever in Stevenskerk, a 19:30 silent march, the 20:00 two‑minute silence, and a mayoral wreath‑laying, with the Waalbrug closed 19:00–21:00 and a route change near Kelfkensbos.
• For 5 May in Nijmegen, the Freedom Flame arrives from Wageningen as the public may join the final roughly 4 km relay from the Waalcrossing monument at 14:15, followed by a Hunnerpark festival from 14:00 to 23:00 with tickets via Doornroosje and a children’s program via Lindenberg.
• Tilburg will honor 76 fallen soldiers at the Gilzerbaan Ereveld at 14:00 with a focus on British servicemembers and speeches by Mayor Fleur Gräper‑van Koolwijk and Sietse Sinnema, then hold a 19:00 church service that leads to the Vrijheidspark for the 20:00 silence with school readings and music.
• Schiedam will hold three 4 May observances that include a 14:00 memorial at Beukenhof’s Erehof, a 15:00 service for casualties of former Dutch East Indies, Korea and New Guinea moved to the Beukenhof aula due to renovations, and an evening ceremony at the Plantage monument following a 19:00 church service.
