Nigeria Detains 22 Indian Sailors After 31.5 Kilograms of Cocaine Found on Cargo Ship

The NDLEA says the drugs were discovered in a hatch of the Marshall Islands–origin MV Aruna Hulya at Lagos’s Apapa Port.

  • Operatives found the consignment on January 2 at the GDNL Terminal in Apapa, Lagos.
  • Those held include the ship’s master, Sharma Shashi Bhushan, with the agency releasing the names of 21 other crew members.
  • NDLEA reported the 31.5 kilograms of cocaine were concealed in hatch three of the vessel.
  • In separate actions, officers intercepted ketamine, ecstasy and tramadol hidden in courier parcels bound for Zambia and the United Kingdom.
  • The agency also reported arrests and large skunk and tramadol seizures in Oyo, Borno, Jigawa and Kwara states, including the capture of a suspect known as “Mama Kerosine” in Ibadan.
