Nick Reiner Case Delayed to September Over Unfinished Autopsies

Prosecutors cite unfinished autopsies alongside vast evidence production as reasons for the delay.

Overview

  • Reiner returned to a Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday, waived the 30-day preliminary window, and Judge Sam Ohta set a Sept. 15 hearing to revisit preliminary-hearing scheduling.
  • Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Chung said the autopsy reports for Rob and Michele Reiner are still not complete and prosecutors still must turn over nearly two terabytes of discovery.
  • Reiner has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder with special-circumstance allegations and remains jailed without bail, and the DA says the case is death-penalty eligible though no final decision has been made.
  • The county medical examiner ruled both deaths homicides caused by multiple sharp-force injuries, but the full autopsy documents have not yet been provided to the defense.
  • LAPD arrested Reiner hours after the bodies were found on Dec. 14, 2025, and reporting has detailed his long struggles with addiction and schizophrenia as his brother Jake recently described the loss as a “living nightmare.”
