Overview
- The International Tennis Integrity Agency said it has provisionally suspended Kyrgios under the Tennis Anti‑Doping Programme after a sample he gave at the Mallorca Open tested positive for benzoylecgonine.
- A WADA‑accredited lab confirmed the metabolite on July 17 from a sample collected on June 22, and the mandatory provisional suspension has been in place since August 4.
- Kyrgios posted an Instagram statement accepting responsibility, apologising and announcing he will step away from public life for 28 days to focus on his mental and physical health.
- While suspended he cannot play, coach or attend ATP, WTA, Grand Slam or other sanctioned events, and the ITIA says he has the right to appeal but had not done so at the time of reporting.
- A tribunal will now hear the case and decide a sanction that could range from a short suspension to multiple years depending on whether use was in competition and on any mitigating factors.
