NIA Court Sentences Two to 15 Years for Harbouring LeT Infiltrator Bahadur Ali

The ruling concludes a decade-long NIA case against overground workers tied to the 2016 Kupwara infiltration.

Overview

  • Delhi’s Special NIA Court at Patiala House imposed concurrent sentences under UAPA Sections 18, 19 and 39, capped at 15 years.
  • Each convict was fined ₹50,000 under each section, totaling ₹1.5 lakh per person.
  • The convicts, Zahoor Ahmed Peer and Nazeer Ahmad Peer of Handwara in Kupwara, were found to have provided shelter, food and logistical support to Bahadur Ali.
  • NIA stated the pair also facilitated Ali’s meetings with other Pakistani militants in the Kashmir Valley.
  • The case traces back to a 2016 LeT infiltration; Ali was arrested on July 25, 2016 and convicted in 2021, while the two OGWs were arrested in 2017, chargesheeted in 2018 and convicted on December 18, 2025.
