NIA Court Seeks Replies After ISIS Accused Alleges Fake Army Offer to ‘Wipe Out’ Case

The complaint describes an attempt to engineer foreign contacts as the long-running ISIS case nears its finish.

Overview

  • The special NIA court took Areeb Majeed’s complaint on record and issued notices to the NIA and Kalyan’s Bazar Peth police, adjourning the matter to March 4 for their responses.
  • The judge characterized the episode as a serious instance of suspected impersonation, inducement, pressure, and interference with the fair administration of justice.
  • Majeed reports that on February 21 two visitors at his Kalyan home claimed Army links and offered to “wipe out” his case if he joined a covert operation using a special phone to contact people abroad.
  • He says he refused and alerted authorities, and at the police station was told the male visitor was from a security establishment and was asked to delete photos, followed by a call from a premier agency officer advising inaction.
  • Majeed remains on bail in a 2014 ISIS-linked case under UAPA, and proceedings are nearing completion.
