Overview
- The National Investigation Agency announced on Wednesday that it attached two immovable properties in Kanispora village, Baramulla, consisting of a residential house on a 7.5 marla plot and a 6 marla plot with a shed.
- The attachments were carried out under Section 33(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act following a Special NIA Court, Jammu order dated April 30, 2026.
- The properties belong to accused Shaheen Ahmad Lone, who was arrested in September 2020, was chargesheeted in March 2021, is lodged in Tihar Jail, and is facing trial in case RC-01/2020/NIA/JMU.
- The NIA says its investigations found Lone involved in smuggling arms, ammunition and explosives from Pakistan across the Line of Control and supplying those materials to banned groups Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba, as well as receiving and transferring funds to militants.
- The agency frames asset attachment as a legal tool to disrupt alleged material and financial support networks, and observers should watch for further seizures, evidence filings in the ongoing trial, and any court challenges to the attachments.
