Overview
- The National Investigation Agency, working with Manipur Police and the CRPF, carried out multi-location searches on Friday, June 19 and arrested 10 people in cases linked to ethnic violence.
- Police and NIA teams conducted raids across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Chandel and Pherzawl districts to execute the arrests.
- The detainees are accused of roles in high-profile incidents under NIA probe, including the Ukhrul PNB bank robbery, the looting of arms from the 5th IRB, attacks on security forces, abductions and killings, and an ambush on the chief minister’s convoy.
- A leader of the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol said three of its volunteers were held, though security agencies have not publicly confirmed identities or the exact charges tied to each arrest.
- Officials say investigations are intelligence-driven and ongoing and that the arrests may produce further detentions and evidence to link planning, execution and support networks that fuelled the wider Meitei–Kuki/Zomi conflict, which has left hundreds dead and tens of thousands displaced since May 2023.
