NHL Gives Exclusive Play-by-Play Feed to FutureSports for CME Hockey Index Futures

The deal supplies official real-time statistics to build continuously updated performance benchmarks that now await regulatory sign-off before CME can list cash-settled contracts.

Overview

  • The NHL signed an exclusive agreement with FutureSports on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to supply official real-time play-by-play statistics that will feed the new indexes.
  • FutureSports will use those feeds to calculate rules-based FutureSports Performance Indexes that move during games and measure cumulative team and player performance.
  • Under the deal the NHL supplies data but will not calculate or govern the indexes; FutureSports will administer the benchmarks and CME Group plans to list monthly and quarterly cash-settled futures tied to them.
  • Launch of the CME products remains conditional on regulatory review and publication of final contract terms, and the parties say index governance will follow IOSCO benchmark principles with league monitoring to protect game integrity.
  • Firms expect the indexes and futures to let sponsors, insurers, apparel makers, asset managers, trading firms and retail investors hedge or trade performance exposure, which could change commercial deals, risk management and fan-facing markets.
