Three tunnels through Bherughat, Choral Ghat, Baigram replace risky ghats, speeding travel on the IndoreKhandwa route.

Overview

  • NHAI officials report roughly 80% completion of the 203 km NH-347BG project, with two of four packages already open to traffic.
  • The current focus is the 33–33.4 km Tejaji Nagar–Balwada section through hilly terrain, designed as a four-lane upgrade under the Bharatmala programme.
  • Excavation of the Bherughat (575 m), Choral/Chaural Ghat (550 m) and Baigram (480 m) tunnels is complete, with lining and waterproofing in progress and most approaches built.
  • Traffic is expected to begin by June on the Badwah and Sanawad bypasses, the tunnels and a new six-lane Narmada bridge, with the entire corridor slated to open by December, according to officials.
  • The project aims to remove hazardous ghat bends, cut crashes and travel time, and enhance links to Omkareshwar, Khandwa, Burhanpur and toward Hyderabad via Jalgaon.
