- NHAI added a digital 'local pass' to the RajmargYatra app that lets residents within a 20 km radius buy a monthly unlimited-travel pass for a specific toll plaza without visiting the booth.
- The rollout began at the Mundka–Bakkarwala toll plaza and the authority announced the app updates on July 20–21, with plans for phased expansion to other national highway toll plazas in the coming months.
- The pass uses consent-based links to DigiLocker and VAHAN to pull verified address, vehicle and linked FASTag details and runs a GIS check to confirm the applicant lives inside the 20 km eligibility zone.
- NHAI also added MargMitra, an AI-driven help and grievance centre in the app that accepts typed or spoken queries in 22 scheduled Indian languages, routes complaints to departments, and lets users track or appeal resolutions.
- The changes respond to issues exposed by Multi-Lane Free Flow barrier-less tolling, which uses RFID and ANPR to deduct tolls and prompted more e-notices for nearby residents who lacked passes; the app already handles large volumes of passes, with NHAI reporting over 80 lakh annual passes sold.
