NFR Hits 500 Electric Barriers as Level Crossing Safety Drive Advances

Officials say automation with rigorous testing aims to cut manual dependence for greater reliability.

  • NFR reports 624 interlocked level crossing gates across the zone, with eight installed in FY 2025–26.
  • Sliding booms now total 582, following additions at 10 gates in the Katihar, Rangiya and Tinsukia divisions.
  • Electric Lifting Barriers have reached 500 commissioned installations, including a newly commissioned unit in Rangiya.
  • Fourteen mechanical barriers were replaced with Electric Lifting Barriers during the current financial year.
  • System Integrity Testing has been completed at 220 gates, with signalling cable meggering performed at 32 to detect faults.
