NFL Sets 2027 Draft for Washington, D.C., on April 29–May 1

The league will stage a three-day, multi-site fan festival anchored on the National Mall with local partners and plans that aim to draw historically large crowds.

Overview

  • The NFL announced June 25 that the 2027 Draft will run Thursday, April 29 through Saturday, May 1 and will be produced in Washington, D.C.
  • The event footprint places the Draft Theater on the National Mall in front of the U.S. Capitol and the NFL Draft Experience along Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd and 7th Streets.
  • The three-day festival will be free to the public, hosted with the Washington Commanders and Events DC, and will include immersive exhibits, autograph sessions, a youth-focused Play 60 Zone, merchandise and photo opportunities with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
  • Commissioner Roger Goodell has publicly said he expects roughly 1 million attendees for Washington, a projection the league presents as a goal after Pittsburgh set a three-day record of more than 805,000 fans in 2026.
  • The site was first announced from the Oval Office on May 5, 2025 by President Donald Trump and the plan has prompted reporting and local discussion about the National Mall’s use, expected crowd impacts on transit and hotels, and a historical note that Washington last hosted the draft in the early 1940s.
