Nexon, Punch Lead Compact SUVs as Creta Tops Midsize in India’s February Sales

Product launches and updates shifted buyer demand across India’s SUV market.

Overview

  • Tata Nexon sold 19,430 units and Tata Punch 18,748, keeping them first and second in the compact rankings, with roughly 27% and 29% year-on-year growth respectively.
  • India’s sub-4m SUV segment totaled 114,531 units, edging up 0.89% year on year but falling 5.46% versus January.
  • Maruti Suzuki Brezza placed third among compacts with 17,863 units, while Maruti Suzuki Fronx declined to 13,898 units, down about 35% year on year.
  • Hyundai Creta led midsize SUVs with 17,938 units, followed by Mahindra Scorpio at 14,665, and newcomer Maruti Suzuki Victoris debuted strongly with 13,021.
  • Kia Seltos rose to 10,308 units (about 60% YoY) and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder to 9,359 (about 117% YoY), as older rivals such as Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara slid to 5,859 units (down about 45% YoY).
