Overview
- A NewsChopper 4 helicopter operated by Angel City Air for NBC4 and Telemundo 52 crashed in Chatsworth on Sept. 15, killing the two people aboard and one person on the ground.
- The two on board were identified as reporter Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw, and the person on the ground was later named as Edy Gutierrez Mejía with the Guatemalan consulate confirming his nationality.
- The helicopter fell into a parking area and ignited a fire that damaged at least four cars and two storage containers while emergency crews extinguished flames and processed the scene.
- The NTSB and FAA are leading the probe and have recovered cockpit audio and video that include alarm tones and a final voice saying “uh oh,” which an NTSB investigator described as likely key evidence; no probable cause has been released.
- The crash has prompted public condolences from city officials and the networks and could prompt reviews of newsroom aerial operations and safety procedures for news helicopters across the industry.
