Overview
- An internal memo says MCC staff arranged boxes and sheets to resemble a body placed in a white medical examiner vehicle so reporters would follow it, while Epstein’s actual corpse left in a separate black vehicle.
- Released CCTV clips show guards approaching the area near Epstein’s cell around 6:30 a.m. and running between a desk and the tier; he was pronounced dead at 6:39 a.m.
- Investigators noted overnight footage of an orange-colored shape ascending the L Tier stairs at about 10:39 p.m.; FBI agents suggested it could be an inmate, while the inspector general pointed to inmate linen or bedding.
- The newly surfaced footage and notes contrast with earlier public assurances that no one entered the area, including past statements by Bill Barr and Dan Bongino.
- The DOJ said a news release about Epstein’s death dated Aug. 9, 2019, was a draft with a typo, as the official Aug. 10 release stands; prior probes still cite suicide by hanging, missed 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. checks, malfunctioning cameras, and a cell note not deemed a suicide note.
