Overview
- On May 30 the 17-year-old mother, identified as Jariah Edwards, was found with a gunshot wound to the head outside a Bay Park short-term rental and died after doctors performed an emergency cesarean.
- The baby delivered during that surgery was treated for a severe hypoxic brain injury, was kept on life support and was taken off support and pronounced dead in early June.
- Investigators arrested 21-year-old Trevon Williams hours after the shooting after finding him in a nearby canyon and recovering a semi-automatic handgun.
- Prosecutors have charged Williams with murder and multiple weapons counts, say they have recorded admissions in which he acknowledges the killing, and contend he traveled from Phoenix to locate the victim.
- Court records show a September 2024 affidavit alleging prior violent assaults by Williams, prosecutors say Edwards had planned to seek a restraining order, and the family has launched fundraisers as the criminal case proceeds.
