New Zealand Call Up Cole McConchie to Replace Injured Michael Bracewell at T20 World Cup

Event officials cleared the travelling reserve to step in after a calf recurrence sidelined Bracewell.

Overview

  • Scans indicated an absence of around three weeks for Bracewell after he aggravated his left calf during warm-ups before the tournament opener in Chennai.
  • Cole McConchie, an off-spinning all-rounder and Canterbury Kings captain, joins from the reserves following Event Technical Committee approval.
  • He brings extensive domestic T20 experience and was Canterbury’s leading wicket-taker last season with 14, having debuted for New Zealand in 2021 with seven wickets in a T20I series.
  • New Zealand are 2–1 in Group D and play Canada on February 17 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
  • Pacer Lockie Ferguson has temporarily left the squad for the birth of his first child, with the possibility of returning if timing and team progression allow.
