New York City Unveils Free World Cup Fan Zones in All Five Boroughs

The free borough events aim to make the World Cup accessible to residents priced out by stadium costs.

Overview

  • Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Monday that New York City will host five official, free fan events with required online registration through the NY/NJ 2026 Host Committee.
  • Sites and dates are set as Queens at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center from June 11 to 27, Brooklyn Bridge Park from June 13 to July 19, the Bronx Terminal Market on June 13 and 14, Staten Island University Hospital Community Park from June 29 to July 2, and Rockefeller Center from July 6 to 19.
  • Officials said the Queens site can hold about 10,000 people at a time and other boroughs will host roughly 5,000 to 10,000 attendees, with final entry details and security plans to be released soon.
  • The city shifted from planned ticketed activations to free fan zones to offer an alternative to high match costs such as NJ Transit’s $150 round-trip fares and limited parking at MetLife Stadium.
  • Hochul projected more than 1.1 million visitors and about $3.3 billion in economic activity for the region, and the state outlined extended bar hours plus proposed grants and a $5 million youth soccer program to support local communities.
