New York Carnival Parade Set for Labor Day on Eastern Parkway

A week of events will spotlight Caribbean culture with stepped-up policing to manage the expected large crowds.

Overview

  • The 59th West Indian American Day Carnival parade will roll along a roughly 3.5-mile stretch of Eastern Parkway on Monday, Sept. 7, with procession hours scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Organizers from the West Indian American Day Carnival Association have programmed Carnival Week events including Blocko Mania, Soca Fest, Youth Fest, the Junior Carnival, and a J’Ouvert celebration that precedes the main parade.
  • WIADCA named Julian John, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, as one of the 2026 grand marshals to lead the parade and represent community and health stakeholders.
  • WABC/ABC7 will stream the parade live from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET across abc7NY platforms while the NYPD will staff the route and place double metal barricades to control crowds.
  • The festival draws more than a million participants over the weekend, supports vendors, performers and small businesses, and requires street closures and transit detours that the city has posted for parade areas.
