Overview
- Principal Brian Saunders told families Thursday morning that all students are safe and that extra security is on campus as police and WCPSS Security investigate reports circulating via social media and text.
- The new concern follows Wednesday’s temporary lockdown at Millbrook Magnet High School after a student was found with a loaded firearm on campus.
- Raleigh police said officers were called around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday; by about 12:05 p.m., a person was escorted away in handcuffs, and the school moved from Code Red to Code Yellow and then to Code Green by about 12:40 p.m.
- The student arrested Wednesday was identified as 18-year-old senior Malcolm McIntyre, who faces a felony count of carrying a gun on educational property and several misdemeanors, including carrying a concealed gun, resisting a public officer and disorderly conduct at school.
- Officials reported no injuries and reminded families that North Carolina law mandates a 365-day suspension for bringing a firearm to school, with criminal charges possible, and earlier alerts asked parents not to come to campus during the lockdown.
