New Mexico Truth Commission Subpoenas 14 Entities in Epstein Zorro Ranch Probe

The panel is seeking flight logs, property deeds and bank records to build a survivor-centered public record that can support prosecutions.

Overview

  • The four-member commission held a public meeting Monday and issued 14 subpoenas to entities that include the FBI, the Justice Department, the Estate of Jeffrey Epstein, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan Chase and the Santa Fe Institute.
  • Survivors and family members testified at the meeting, with Rachel Benavidez and relatives of Virginia Roberts Giuffre urging officials to center victims’ accounts and press for transparency.
  • Lawmakers said the commission will collect documentary and physical evidence, physically survey Zorro Ranch, seek flight logs and financial records, coordinate with federal and state law enforcement and refer any prosecutable findings to the proper authorities.
  • The inquiry is financed by a $2 million settlement from banks tied to Epstein and must deliver an interim report by July 31 followed by a final report later this year.
  • The panel’s work follows the Justice Department’s release of millions of Epstein-related files and aims to fill gaps left by the 2008 plea deal and the 2019 federal prosecution by documenting institutional failures and informing possible law and policy changes.
