Overview
- New Jersey began early in-person voting on Tuesday, giving registered party members six days to cast ballots before the June 2 primary.
- Voters who want a mail-in ballot must apply by May 26 if using the post, may request one in person by 3 p.m. on June 1, and must return completed ballots by 8 p.m. on June 2.
- The state runs a closed primary, so only voters registered with a party can vote in that party’s contests, and unaffiliated voters may declare a party affiliation during early voting or at their polling place.
- Sen. Cory Booker faces no Democratic opposition while four Republicans — including Robert S. Lebovics, Justin Murphy, Richard Tabor, and Alex Zdan — compete for the GOP nomination and trail Booker heavily in fundraising.
- All 12 U.S. House seats are also on the ballot with several competitive matchups, nominations are decided by plurality with no runoffs, and voters can track ballots on NJ.gov or call the Division of Elections for help.
