New 800 VA Rule Drives Uptake of Battery Balcony Solar in Germany

A planned cut to Chinese export rebates on April 1 is prompting markdowns on 2,000 W balcony solar kits with batteries.

Overview

  • The VDE 4105:2026-03 standard, in force since March 1, lets residents self-install systems up to 800 VA including micro-storage and use larger panel arrays as long as the inverter caps grid feed-in at 800 VA.
  • Retailers are running steep spring deals on complete 2,000 W kits with storage, including an EcoFlow Stream Ultra X package at €1,329.05 from Solarway, a Powerness set at €1,269, and a Yuma offer at €1,389.
  • Outlets report that China will cut export tax rebates for solar modules on April 1, which sellers say could push prices higher, with one estimate suggesting increases of up to 20%.
  • The EcoFlow Stream Ultra X highlighted in many bundles offers a 3.84 kWh LFP battery, four independent MPPT inputs, IP65 weatherproofing, and an integrated inverter designed for balcony systems.
  • A municipal rollout in Jena by Jenawohnen is fitting about 150 apartments with balcony solar systems using 300 modules, with estimated savings of up to €200 per household each year.
