New 2025 Data Show Surge in Attacks on German Rail and Federal Police Staff

The Interior Ministry’s latest intake figures trigger renewed demands for concrete protection plans for frontline staff.

Overview

  • From January through October 2025, 2,987 Deutsche Bahn employees were recorded as crime victims, including 1,148 threats, 1,231 bodily injuries and 324 dangerous bodily injuries.
  • For the same period, police intake statistics list 9,329 Bundespolizei employees as victims, comprising 7,529 cases of resistance, 2,981 physical attacks and 1,796 threats, with a rising trend.
  • On average, Bahn staff faced five physical attacks and about four threats per day, while roughly 30 federal police employees were victimized daily.
  • Linke politician Dietmar Bartsch warned that adding November and December would likely make 2025 a 'sad record year' and urged Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt to present a protection plan.
  • Deutsche Bahn said safety is a top priority, pointing to 2026 emergency programs focused on station security and cleanliness and the ongoing voluntary rollout of bodycams for passenger-facing local transport staff since 2024.
