Nevada Students Build 14,103-Square-Foot Blanket Fort to Break Guinness Record

Meeting strict Guinness technical standards, the student-designed build served as a hands-on STEM project that supported foster-care outreach.

Overview

  • An official Guinness World Records adjudicator confirmed the fort measured 14,103 square feet, exceeding the prior 12,291-square-foot record.
  • Engineering students from West Career & Technical Academy led the fort’s design and oversaw construction at Desert Breeze Community Center.
  • Dozens of volunteers and sponsors including Las Vegas Grand Prix, Atlas Crane, Foster Kinship and Leverage LV provided labor, materials and logistics.
  • Guinness rules required no gaps larger than one inch, all sheets to touch the ground and enough interior height for a person to sit comfortably, and those requirements were met during the on-site inspection.
  • After certification the community center hosted a Parent’s Night Out for 150 foster children with activities and food, framing the effort as both a STEM teaching moment and foster-care awareness event.
