Netflix Tests Return of Free Trials in Select Markets

The company is using the limited experiment to measure whether free trials drive new sign-ups before any wider rollout.

Overview

  • Netflix confirmed it is running a limited test of free-trial offers in select countries outside the US and UK.
  • The offers appear only to people who have never subscribed and show up during the sign-up flow when an account, device and location qualify.
  • Independent checks have found varying trial lengths across test cohorts, including 30 days in India and 14 days in Brazil, with other reports of 7, 15 and 30-day variants.
  • Netflix enables AutoPay by default for trial accounts so subscriptions will auto-renew unless users cancel before the trial ends.
  • The experiment is the first broad reappearance of trial offers since Netflix phased out its 30-day trial in 2019–2020 and reflects the company’s long-running A/B testing of promotions to boost conversions.
