Netflix Sets August Release and Theatrical Finale for One Hundred Years of Solitude Part Two

The streaming conclusion will combine a multi-episode drop with a cinema-style finale to spotlight Colombia’s rebuilt Macondo and the country’s growing capacity for large-scale productions.

Overview

  • On Friday, Netflix debuted the official trailer for Part Two and confirmed the two-part release strategy for the series finale.
  • The first seven episodes will stream on Aug. 5 and a nearly two-hour cinematic finale will premiere on Aug. 26 with select theatrical screenings in Colombia organized with Proimágenes.
  • Part Two was shot entirely in Colombia in Spanish and recreated the town of Macondo on a purpose-built backlot with the blessing of Gabriel García Márquez’s family.
  • Showrunner Laura Mora directed five episodes, including the finale, while Carlos Moreno directed three episodes, and the season highlights the arrival of the banana company and other forces that reshape Macondo.
  • Producers and Netflix say the production is a milestone for the Colombian audiovisual industry that employed hundreds of local cast and crew and could help attract more ambitious projects and industry investment to the country.
