Overview
- Multiple outlets reported on Wednesday that Netflix has bought a spinoff project centered on Cobie Smulders’ Artemisia “Emi” Finch and has commissioned a script for the new series.
- The script is being written by The Lincoln Lawyer executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman, with A+E Studios attached to produce.
- A formal green light is not yet official because the project still needs deals with key talent and rights holders to be closed, and Netflix declined to comment publicly on the news.
- Emi is an original, show-created character introduced late in Season 4 and elevated for Season 5, a move partly driven by the fact that Harry Bosch and related rights are controlled by Amazon.
- The Lincoln Lawyer has been a major Los Angeles production for Netflix, which says the first four seasons generated over $425 million for California, employed more than 4,300 cast and crew, and posted strong global viewing figures.
