Netflix Elevates Animation Into Its Own Studio Under Hannah Minghella

The company centralized global animation leadership to push sequels, live events and consumer products tied to its most successful animated IP.

Overview

  • The company announced the reorganization on Monday, June 22, 2026, naming Hannah Minghella head of Netflix Animation Studios with sole responsibility for the streamer’s animation strategy.
  • Minghella will run three animation facilities in Burbank, Vancouver and Sydney and oversee more than 1,000 employees working on a slate that includes Kpop Demon Hunters 2, Ray Gunn and The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2.
  • Film vice president Kira Goldberg will take over Netflix’s live-action family film slate and report to Film Chairman Dan Lin to provide dedicated leadership for in-production and future live-action family projects.
  • Minghella will continue to shepherd certain live-action family titles already in process, including Greta Gerwig’s Narnia and an Eloise adaptation, to preserve continuity during the handoff.
  • The shift follows the commercial and streaming success of Kpop Demon Hunters and signals a strategy to turn high-performing animation into franchises with theatrical windows, fan events and consumer products.
