Overview
- Netflix and SEGA announced the multi-title partnership on Monday, September 14, 2026, with three projects officially in development: a Crazy Taxi feature film, a live-action Stranger Than Heaven film, and a new animated Sonic series.
- Crazy Taxi is positioned as the lead project and will be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand with producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and SEGA’s Toru Nakahara attached.
- SEGA and Netflix say the Sonic project will be an animated series developed by Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara and targeted to an upper pre-school audience rather than older viewers.
- Stranger Than Heaven will be adapted to a live-action film with Toru Nakahara producing and is tied to RGG Studio’s upcoming game scheduled for January 2027, while the Crazy Taxi game Crazy Taxi: World Tour is slated for 2027.
- No release dates for the screen adaptations have been set, and the announcement builds on Netflix’s expanding slate of game-to-screen projects while raising issues the companies may need to manage, including recent reporting about generative-AI use in Crazy Taxi’s game development.
