Nepra Approves Rs22.98 Incremental Power Tariff for Industry and Agriculture

The regulator set a three-year, usage-based rate to entice industry and farms back to the grid.

Overview

  • The concessional rate applies only to electricity used above last year’s consumption baseline and will automatically lapse after three years.
  • It replaces prior incremental charges of Rs34 per unit for industry and Rs38 for agriculture, cutting roughly Rs15 on excess usage.
  • The decision covers government distribution companies and K-Electric’s relevant customers, with positive fuel adjustments applied to the incremental units only.
  • The Power Division has received the decision and will put it into effect after issuing the formal notification.
  • Domestic and commercial consumers are unaffected, with officials saying the measure targets lower costs and higher output, citing example savings of about Rs7 per unit for an extra 100 agricultural units and roughly Rs5 for an extra 1,000 industrial units.
